The second International Symposium on Functional Linguistics will be held at the Federal University of São Carlos and will be jointly organized with the São Paulo State University.

As in the first symposium it aims to bring together researchers from different functionalist backgrounds, to discuss theoretical and descriptive issues from  different points of view.

This symposium will specifically address the question of the interface between morphosyntax, semantics and pragmatics in the description and analysis of language. It departs from the principle that grammar is somewhat "modular", which means that the meaning, in a broad sense, is encoded in languages through levels / layers / patterns that characterize  functional theories in general.
